Why this fundraiser
Nothing like an outdoors sport to keep our teenagers active and sound! On top of that, the Hornets u15s girls' team are showing real team spirit by taking the initiative for this fundraiser. This chimes with WhatSUP's values so of course we said 'yes' when they asked for help!
Rugby is a sport with a very strong team spirit, teaching the girls valuable life lessons as they play their matches and train together. The girls are due to go on their annual tour in May 2021. From different backgrounds, the girls do realise that not all of them would be able to join the tour, unless they really club together to raise funds as a team so each girl can join them on their trip. They are undertaking lots of different activities, and the fundraising paddle with WhatSUP is just one of them.
By suggestion of the team, WhatSUP's head instructor Ben will paddle for 24 hours. Each hour, one of the girls from the team will join him on the water. Also, there is space for 10 guests to join them too. If you buy a voucher via the button above, you could be one of them! To join them for an hour is only £20 and each penny goes to the team's tour.

About the 24h paddle
- The fundraising paddle will take place from Congresbury Scout Hut (Other side of the river from the Ship and Castle Pub).
- The planned dates are 30th Apr - 1st May but if unsafe due to weather or Covid we may have to change date. If this happens, we will let you know.
- If you cannot make it on the day, you cannot redeem this voucher for cash or another WhatSUP activity, but you are free to give your spot to someone else of course.
- WhatSUP's Ben will paddle for 24h straight, and one of the Hornets u15s girls will join him on the water for an hour each.
- Each hour 10 guests can also join, for £20 each. All funds to go to the team's tour. Tickets via the button above.
- No experience needed at all, full instruction will be given
- When you buy a voucher (or more... why not?) you can tell us your preferences re time or paddle together with friends/family, and you also will be asked for your email address and phone number. Within one week our team will be in touch with you to book your preferred timeslot(s). We know which girls at paddling at what times, so we can give their family members and friends priority to paddle with them. Other than that, it's first come, first serve for preferred timeslots.
- WhatSUP provides the paddle boards, paddles and (obligatory to use) life jackets. These will be disinfected (for COVID safety) between each use so will be wet. You can wear a waterproof jacket and wear your life jacket over that if you like. Wetsuits are not provided, but will also not be needed. Just wear something comfortable and warm (if paddling at night), and bring some extra dry clothes and a towel for afterwards just in case....
- Minimum age is 6 years old. Each paddler MUST be comfortable in water and not panic should they fall in. Everyone will be wearing a lifejacket, staff is near, and the water is not very deep, but if children panic when they get wet it is just not the fun experience for them that it is meant to be.
- Each guest will paddle for 50-55 minutes, leaving our WhatSUP team on the land a bit of time for disinfecting of equipment.
- Sharing of boards is not advisable - it is difficult to balance the weight of two people. If you choose to share a board between a toddler and adult this can be done. In this case 2 vouchers would be required: bookings are per person, not per board, so we can be sure everyone is covered by our insurance providers.
- We do ask an adult to also join in the fundraising paddle if children under 10yo are coming, minimum one adult from their bubble per 3 children under the age of 10 years old.
